My study in the word often provokes songs in my heart. Those who know me know that I often turn an average conversation into song, but we are encouraged in Colossians 3:16 to share these songs with each other. Paul writes, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (NASB). Yesterday our gathering of believers met and discussed the miraculous story in John 6 about Jesus walking on water to come and comfort the disciples in the midst of a storm, and I was moved to write the following song.
The Lord of Storms
By Jason Truett Glen
There’s a sign of love in every storm
There’s a power that makes us all reborn
There’s a healing salve for all the thorns
There’s a grace that brings us to our Lord
See our Lord, the Lord of storms
See how strong his face and form
See our Lord, the Lord of life
Bring us home through darkened nights
Though the mighty waves wrench our hearts
Though we fail to play our parts
Though we feel the enemy’s fiery darts
Though we fear, a strong tower is our Lord
See our Lord, the Lord of storms
See how strong his face and form
See our Lord, the Lord of life
Bring us home through darkened nights
Take and eat His holy bread
Take and weave this holy thread
Take and speak life unto the dead
Take and live life unto our Lord
See our Lord, the Lord of storms
See how strong his face and form
See our Lord, the Lord of life
Bring us home through darkened nights
